It is a small tree about 4 to 7 meters high. It has a rounded bearing although its branches have a somewhat hanging growth. The compound and doubly pinnate leaves are feathery, evergreen and glaucous in color.
Flowering occurs in winter during the months of January-February giving rise to an impressive bright coppery-yellow bloom. The flowers are lightly scented.
Once flowering is over, green legumes appear with reticulated edges, which turn brown when they mature.
Culture:
It must be placed in a place where it receives a lot of light, in full sun or semi-shade. It supports short-term frosts that do not fall below -5ºC. It is not demanding in terms of soils, supporting poor, fresh or dry soils and calcareous soils.
Although it does not need it, in its youthful state it appreciates a cleaning and training pruning just after flowering.
Multiplication:
It can be multiplied in spring by seeds previously dipped in water; in summer by cutting or by grafting in Acacia retinodes.
Applications:
These trees are used for mass formation and in small alignments. Highly recommended for all types of Mediterranean coastline and for first terms of vegetation.
